Black City Dread (Tanty, 2003)

*GUEST REVIEW*
Black City Dread reminds me of an Adrian Sherwood production. It's genre-hopping, murky, has many things going on, and takes a proper listen or two to enjoy.  The Dub Funk Association is a UK-based artist, and this album is an attempt to recreate Contempto Jade by Black Jack.  I’ve never heard of Black Jack but I,m tempted to investigate further.  For the most part, this is a dub album that attempts to fuse house music, soul, funk, and reggae.  However, some tracks feature classic vocal samples to good effect.  Despite the funk moniker, this is still a left-field dub album that would fit well onto an On-U Sound compilation.  So it's not a dance floor filler or easy listening, but who wants middle-of-the-road material?
