Power of Love (Artists Only!, 2001)

I got this album on the strength of the heartfelt tune "My God Is Real" alone (heard on Kings of Reggae); it's that good.  I was almost certain that everything else on Power of Love would pale in comparison, but it was just a matter of how much.  I wasn't encouraged by the fact that it had been 7 years since Tony Curtis' last album, but if he's rusty, it isn't apparent here.  While not a classic album, Power of Love is quite entertaining, with a smooth, steady lovers rock vibe flowing through it -- certainly enjoyable for fans of Sanchez, to whom Curtis compares favorably.  Apart from "My God Is Real," Curtis' best efforts are his sweet love songs (a la Sanchez) -- with highlights including the well-written duo "Lonely Man" and "One of a Kind," as well as "Foolish Hearts" and "Have I Told You," a remake of Tyrese's "Lately" (although the cover of Celine Dion's "Power of Love" is a tad disturbing).
